Digital technology re-structures our relationships with our family, friends, colleagues modifying various aspects of our society.
It has the potential to create new kinds of openness and collaboration between citizens, ecosystems and organizations across France, Europe and the entire world. This potential was made clear during the COVID crisis, by how quickly and easily digital tools became the vital link between our confined selves and the outside world.
But our dependence on these tools shed light on their dangers : the further weakening of the less-fortunate; personal data exploitation; introduction and amplification of bias; lack of social and gender diversity; limits to interoperability, environmental impacts…
This is why we need an European governance that transcends boundaries, in order to build together an ethical, sustainable, and inclusive framework for a digital society.
What we need today is to build digital tools for the common good. A digital commons. Digital in Common.»
